HPB P69 Minimally invasive versus open management of chronic pancreatitis - A systematic review

Abstract Background Surgical treatment for chronic pancreatitis (CP) is usually performed via an open approach through drainage (pancreaticojejunostomy) or resection (pancreaticoduodenectomy, Beger) procedures a combination of both (Frey's procedure). Minimally invasive (laparoscopic, robotic) management patients with CP represents technical challenge. The aim this systematic review to report the outcomes these minimally among themselves and compare them reported data from literature procedures. Methods A search using Embase Medline was identify articles reporting CP. Results Twelve studies 186 undergoing laparoscopic procedure their intractable abdominal pain caused by Sixty-six-point six percent (n=124) underwent while 33.3% (n=62) had partial total pancreas. Total relief achieved in 66.7–100% following pancreatojejunostomy, 93% Frey's procedure, 90% pancreatectomy islet transplantation 70% distal pancreatectomy. Conclusions Laparoscopic are safe feasible carefully selected group patients. However, more robust comparisons required between approaches form multi-centre randomised controlled trials.
